contemplation of the all
silent spirals bloom
body mind space time intertwine

heartbeat of the universe
rhythmic pulse of life
creator's fractal echo

the eternal conduit
particle & wave
love's total expression, light

---

Yantra for humankind,
engraved in stone
in transit through hereafter

---

The essence of One
Encompassing all the world
Truth, simplicity

---

Under the bodhi
tree sits the universe, legs
crossed and infinite

-

Bodhisattva free
sitting 'neath a tree, opening
but is it still me?

Beats me. C'mon slack-and-idlers!

Mind you, if people don't groove on a given picture, then they don't groove on it. What are you going to do? Apart from curse their souls to hell! Oops, did I really say that? Just joking.

Yay Lua! Lua has been having a tough time of things lately. I'm so glad she's back with us. Still with the dolphins beautiful girl?

And in a spirit of helpfulness - yantra

Oh BTW - Does anyone recall me telling of how Lua lost her money with some evil Chinese computer bullshit artists? I posted a note note back then as a warning. That ended up getting so many hits I expanded the note and added various details. Every day about half of the haiku blog's hits are people wondering if those scumbags are for real. Believe it or not I am the only web-page warning people of this mob. My good deed for the day!

De nada. To be honest, it took all of ten minutes. And I didn't even have to get out my chair, ha ha.

And Buff - pause - that was spot on. Well done.

BTW apropos Lua's stone reference, this particular Buddha is made of bronze. No criticism of Lua of course. The photo is the photo. The haiku is the haiku. If you can dig it.

But anyway... this statue is the famous Daibuttsu (literally big buddha) at Kamakura. I've been there and saw this very statue. Well you could hardly go to Kamakura and not see it. It has a door in the back you know...

Otherwise Kamakura is absolutely fantastic. I did my usual trick of going where the people aren't and found myself in a bamboo forest. Bamboo forests are some of the spookiest and most ethereal places there are. If you're fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit one, don't pass it up.

Back and loaded for bear, I am. Disappeared into the maw of the USSA last Thursday for a few days of R & R (rock & roll, not rest & relaxation) in the belly of the beast: NYC.

The wife & I braved the TSA gauntlet (and not without incident) to experience a BÖC (Blue Öyster Cult) "dream weekend", complete with a private show by the band organized by colleagues on Sunday and a knock-out Saturday night in the Village with the Brothers Bouchard and a cast of talented guests including Dennis Dunaway and Andy Hilfiger (yes, THAT Hilfiger family) and the Cult's original lead singer in the Pre-ÖC days on Long Island.

It was everything it was cracked up to be and then some, surrounded by friends from around the world, and hopefully the first of many annual events. We capped the whole run off with a couple days up in the Catskills as the guests of said Pre-ÖC singer and his lovely wife, old friends from back in the day.

We're back to the "real" world now, and one of my first priority stops as I play cybercatch-up is right here in the belly of the Buddha...

...namaste. (bowing)

Yay Mir!

I was wondering where you'd got to. And Blue Oyster Cult! The thinking man's heavy metal crumpet! I used to love them. I had two of their albums. Can't remember the names of them - an ME262 on one, and blue spooky-faced, hooded kids on the other.

Anyway, envious as all hell. I can't remember the last time I went to a gig of any description. Still thinking. Nup, can't remember. It was probably jazz to be honest.

God knows why this popped into my head - did you ever hear of an Italian band called Prozac+ ('prozac piu' in Italian)? Their album '3' did my head in.

That would be Secret Treaties sporting the Messerschmidt and Fire of Unknown Origin with the hooded figures, Mr. N.

One thing I've learned over the years is that there an awful lot of BÖC fans out there, hiding inside a whole lot of otherwise normal-seeming individuals. More than the band or management are willing to admit, sadly.

Took us thirteen years just to finally get this gig cleared and booked, though now that we've "broken the seal" the enthusiasm of the managing Jew (it's true) for such events is growing.

As for live music, it is quite honestly the one thing that keeps me sane. Perhaps my best friend on the planet is Swedish lighting director who was the founder and head of the BÖC fan club for many years, and he remains in LA working lights at places like the Roxy and Key Club, and I saw a LOT of music from the lighting booth during my stint in the city of plastic angels.

Here in the German countryside, you'd naturally think I would have fallen off a cultural cliff -- and thankfully, you'd be wrong.

We're still within an hour (at autobahn speeds) from Trier & Köln (Cologne) and a little closer even to Luxembourg City. There's even a little rock club about 35 minutes north in the small provincial Belgian city of Verviers, where we have the luxury of seeing all manner of smaller touring acts.

I may be digging in the dirt and shoveling a different sort of s**t these days, but that doesn't mean I must do without this particular luxury -- at least for now.

Until the world economic system does tank, I will continue to go out of my way to be there when and where the music is happening. Without it, I am diminished.

...and I've just spotted a typo in my second haiku above.

It should read:

Bodhisattva free
sitting 'neath a tree, opening
but is it still me?

hi mira...

reading about your love of music... may i offer an internationl jazzesque/fiery flaminco/world/culture crossing artist?

jesse cook... great stuff, great lyrics too.

he's my canuk hubs' mother's best friend (affectionately called auntie)... marg's nephew.

i'd give my left ass cheek to see him perform.

kind of reminds me of andreas vollenweider, just a little more down to earth :)

just google him on youtube :)

Oh! Big bells go off with the names of those albums! Those were the days when you'd play them over and over, read all the lyrics, and hang off every word. Me, and the old wooden Garrard turntable!

Speaking of lighting directors, Mr Schutte (who is on sabbatical it seems) started out as precisely that. One of his first gigs was Elvis (no, not Costello). Wherever the Schutte lives, he forms a band. One of the finest gigs I ever saw was in an Irish bar in downtown Ueno in Tokyo with a line up of guitar, mandolin (that would be the Schutte), clarinet, tuba, and all capped off with a madboard washboard chick who literally had all the bells and whistles. All of them piling in on 20's and 30's gypsy jazz. Total meltdown with the audience a delirious sweaty wreck. And as I like to say, you haven't lived until you've heard a tuba solo, ha ha.

But speaking of rock, you lit a bulb in my head and are thus responsible for the latest pic. If no one grooves on it, it's your fault.
